Can I buy a cell phone from one service and use a plan from another service?

I want the MetroPCS plan, but I don’t like there phones.
Does anyone know what cell phone Generic pharmacy services I can buy a cell phone from but still use MetroPCS’s plan?

I heard you can do it but only with certain cell phone services.
